Photomosaic jigsaw puzzles were invented and patented by Robert Silvers. Robert Silvers launched the Runaway Technologies company to create these jigsaw puzzles. Mosaics are normally overall images created from clever arrangements of small, solid colored tiles. Robert Silvers took this to a whole new dimension. He created total images from small photographic images. The ones I have are just so clever. It is easy to get excited at getting started, puzzling out the place of the smaller tiles and moving on to the fabulous finished article.

Mosaics

Mosiacs are the art of decoration with small pieces of coloured glass, stone or other material. Small tiles are used to create a pattern or picture. Mosaics of the 4th century are found in the Macedonian city of Aegae. The Romans used them extensively. They were a feature of Christian Basilicas such as Santa Constanza. A brilliant example from the 5th century is from Ravenna, the capital of the western Roman empire. Robert Silvers work brought things forward to Photomosaics made up of lots of pictures. The smaller tiles are generally made up from photographic images related to the final overall image.

The Puzzles
