Alphabet
My daughter Ellie is learning the first letter of many words such as a for apple, b for ball, c for cat and d for dad. We have simple alphabet jigsaw puzzles which she completes and we chat over the words and letters if she is happy to do it. I try to make this as much fun as possible with a big hug for trying and having fun learning.
Numbers Ellie's pre school had identified she was frustrated at learning to recognise numbers 6 through 10. Principally the school team were working with Ellie. However to help I bought numbers kid jigsaw puzzles and we played that as she wanted. At the same time we wrote down the numbers and coloured in such as 6 cows, 7 oranges. When we were out for a walk we looked at house numbers and played a few more games like that. Slowly but surely over the next month she found her confidence with these numbers. It may have been most likely that the school helped her but I like to think I had a little bit to do with her advance. Body Parts Ellie learned quite quickly to point to her eyes, ears, mouth and nose as we practiced singing the kids song on them. She loved the signing and pointing, and the laughing we all did. A body parts puzzle just helped to make it more fun!
