They are distinguished by having no tail, or a short stub. They may date back 300 years. They come in short and long haired varieties. Legend has it, Noah closed the door of the ark when it began to rain and accidentally cut off the Manx's tail, who'd been playing and almost got left behind. Another legend claims that the Manx is the offspring of a cat and a rabbit which is why it has no tail and rather long hind legs. In addition, they move with more of a hop than a stride, like a rabbit. The Isle of Man has adopted the Manx cat as a symbol of its native origins. They mostly have a white, silky, medium-long length coat, no undercoat and fine bone structure. Although they are known for their white coat, currently there are more than twenty varieties. Eyes may be blue, green or amber, or even one blue and one amber. They have a traditionally white medium coat, but other colours exist. They are intelligent, playful and active.
