Lions are powerful animals that usually hunt in groups and stalk their chosen prey. They can reach speeds of 50 mph (80 km/h) though only for short bursts.
Reaching up to over 272 kg (600 lb), it is the second-largest cat after the tiger. They currently exist in the wild in sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia.
Lions live for approximately 10–14 years in the wild.
The male lion is highly distinctive and is easily recognized by its mane.
Eight recent subspecies are recognized today including
South Asian, Persian or Indian lion, Barbary lion, and
West African lion.
Lions weigh between 150–225 kg (330–500 lb) for males, and 120–150 kg (260–330 lb) for females.
Lions spend much of their time resting and are inactive for about 20 hours per day.
I love the 1994 Disney animated feature film The Lion King.

Elephants are the largest land animals alive today.
At birth it is common for an elephant calf to weigh 120 kilograms (265 lb).
An elephant may live as long as 70 years, sometimes longer.
African elephants, at up to 4 m (13 ft 1 in) tall and weighing 7500 kg (8.27 short tons), are usually larger than the Asian species and they have bigger ears.
The large flapping ears of an elephant are also very important for temperature regulation. On hot days, elephants will flap their ears constantly, creating a slight breeze.
Great Elephant characters inlcude Dumbo, the elephant who learns to fly in the Disney movie of the same name. Also the French children's storybook character Babar the Elephant (an elephant king) created by Jean de Brunhoff.

The Giant Panda has a black-and-white coat. Adults measure around 1.5 m long.
Giant Pandas live in mountainous regions, such as Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, and Tibet. The Giant Panda has also become a national emblem for China.
Giant pandas are an endangered species, threatened by continued habitat loss and by a very low birthrate, both in the wild and in captivity.
Giant Pandas can usually live to be 20-30 years old in captivity.
