She seems now to enjoy the challenge as if she is expecting to complete the puzzle. That has given her great perseverance when pieces are hard to find. Of course, for dad, this is a great chance to spend great time together. I have always noticed how big a bedtime hug Ellie gives if I spend lots of time with her. Also for family puzzle nights, the puzzles are now more challenging for her 14 year old sister. Much more fun for all of us to be completing genuinely decent 100 piece jigsaw puzzles. However we do harder puzzles a lot of the time as Ellie can take part in parts of the jigsaw with good colour definition. She seems to feel very proud of herself doing a harder puzzle. Lots of great praise for her, as I feel it is good for her to celebrate her achievements, particularly where she has tried hard. If it has not worked out I like to praise her for trying to be sure she learns to persevere. I don't see the outcome as failure, just a chance to learn and have fun. I notice on 100 piece jigsaw puzzles boxes the recommended ages can be from 4+, 5+, 6+ and 8+. I find Ellie is comfortable with some which are age 6+, so I have learned to trust my instincts and focus on a beautiful picture that Ellie will just love.
